Chaos Erupts In DC Subway Station As Up Escalators Stop Working And Turn Into Stairs

DUPONT CIRCLE – It was a chaotic scene just before 6 p.m. at the Dupont Circle Metro station Monday. Officials say one of the escalators began to smoke on the northern side of the station. Passengers also say the station started to fill with smoke. Metro shut down the escalators while passengers were riding them and there was no warning to get out of the station. Meanwhile, Metro kept trains running causing a big panic on their escalators. Firefighters rushed in heading down the escalators trying to find the source of the smoke. Then a crush of Metro passengers tried to get out, some of them so worried about their safety. They pushed aside a barrier and climbed up a center escalator under construction. When some passenger reached the top, they had to climb over the railing to get out. “All the people at the bottom kept yelling at us to keep going and kept pushing us up the escalator, but we couldn’t go anywhere,” said one Metro passenger.

Oh my god! Oh my god! The up escalators stopped working and these poor people had to climb stairs to get out of the subway! And at the top of the escalator they had to step over a piece of yellow Police tape! The horror! The horror! I mean are these people serious? Like is that fat chick really jumping from escalator to escalator with a face of sheer panic? Relax honey. They’re stairs. It’s called exercise. It’s what skinny people do. I’m just completely baffled why everyone is acting like they’re on a sinking ship tossing blind elderly women and children over barricades and shit? Like I don’t see any smoke in the video? Wasn’t there just some coming out of the escalator control panel? Fucking people.
