So let me get this right: Tiger Woods completely dominates a sport and is the best in the world by his early twenties, opens up the game of golf to millions of people who otherwise wouldn’t have given two shits, destroys records left and right en route to possibly taking down the greatest golfer of all-time, marries a drop-dead blonde model Smokeshow while simultaneously banging porn stars, waitresses, and random huge-tittied freaks worldwide, and now people don’t like him because he’s “smug”? How does that even make sense?
Tiger’s the bad guy because he doesn’t take shit from other assholes in a centuries-old snooty sport and their snooty-ass reporters? Tiger’s the bad guy because he can deliver a barbed retort to those who question his decisions? Tiger’s a bad guy because he fires back-talking dickish caddies who aren’t helping him get better? Please. If you’re gonna hate Tiger for anything it has to be for infidelity, because if you hate him due to his attitude you pretty much have to hate Michael Jordan, Roger Federer, Peyton Manning, and a whole host of other dominant athletes who regularly act(ed) as if their shit didn’t stink. That “better than everybody” attitude is a 100% necessary personality trait for anyone who is at that level of play. Michael was all smiles on camera and in commercials, yet by all accounts was a colossal douche with a gambling and attitude problem. Was it smug when he would both physically and verbally flex his superiority over the rest of the NBA? Of course not, because — like Tiger — he worked his ass off and won enough to EARN the right to act that way.
